Dr. Dave Franzen was recognized at the 9th ND Certified Crop Adviser Annual meeting as the 2011 ND Certified Crop Adviser of the Year.

Dave became a CCA in Illinois during 1992-1993, and a ND CCA since 1995. He provided leadership as a member of the ND CCA for 6 years, which included Board Chair for two years. Dave also served as a member of the ICCA Board as Midwest representative for two years. His career involves 35 years of crop advising experience!

His career includes working 18 years as an agronomist for an independent retail ag supply chain in east central Illinois, assisting growers who managed about 40,000 acres of corn and soybean. Since 1994 he has worked as NDSU Extension Service Soil Specialist providing soil management information across ND fertilizer recommendations for about 20 million acres of crops grown each year, including wheat, barley, corn, soybean, sunflower, flax, canola, dry bean, sugar beets and alternative crops.

Dave established the NDSU Soil and Soil Water Workshop in 1996 – to present. He is a member of NDSU/U of M Advanced Crop Advisers Workshop planning committee since 1996, and coordinates the crop production update seminars at the Northern Ag Expo. Dave has authored numerous NDSU Extension soils publications. His research interests include site specific agriculture, soil fertility, non-conventional soil amendments and additives and soil/pest relationships.

Dave is married and has a son who will be attending NDSU this fall.

The CCA of the Year is awarded yearly by the ND CCA Board and given to an outstanding crop adviser who has made an impact on agriculture through leadership, professionalism, education.
