BISMARCK – Today, the North Dakota Taxpayers’ Association (NDTA) announced an initial schedule of townhall-style forums to discuss the implications of the initiated measure on June’s primary ballot that would abolish property taxes all together.  NDTA has taken a neutral position on the measure itself due to the negative implications that could result from its implementation.

“We see both sides of this issue very clearly,” said Dustin Gawrylow, executive director of NDTA.  “On one hand, public officials and special interest groups have stonewalled all efforts to reform property taxes over the last several legislative sessions.  On the other hand, the measure’s long-term unintended consequences could lead to substantial future increases of taxes outside of property taxes.  Our goal is to mediate this discussion and help the public figure out what is the best approach.”

The following is a preliminary schedule of public forums to discuss Measure #2 (all times local, dates and locations subject to change):

Williston @ the El Rancho Hotel – Tuesday, February 21st @ 5:30pm

Dickinson @ the Elks Lodge – Friday, March 9th @ 5:30pm

Minot @ the Riverside Holiday Inn – Thursday, March 29th @ 5:30pm

Bismarck @ the Bismarck Public Library – Thursday, April 19th @ 7:00pm

Grand Forks @ the Best Western Guest House – Thursday, April 26th @ 5:30pm

Fargo @ the Ramada Plaza Suites – Thursday, May 10th @ 5:30pm

***Public input requested: NDTA is seeking local citizens around the state to help organize more events.  If you would like to organize a forum in your town please call Dustin at (701) 390-9231 for information on how you can help this discussion. ***
